This error message is generic and can occur in other applications as well. The cause of this problem is related to removable devices such as:
- Memory Card Readers
- All-In-One Printers w/ Card Readers
- Iomega ZIP drives
- Compact Flash Drive
- Anything that is a plug-n-play removal device (USB, FireWire, pluggable SATA devices). This does NOT include devices like IDE/SATA CD-ROM's, DVD-ROMS, etc.
The solution depends on what application(s) your experiencing the error message. In my instance, I repeatly received this error message with Winamp. I was able to resolve this issue by Uninstalling the "Nullsoft USB Device Plug-In" located under Winamp Preferences -> Plug-Ins -> Portables. In other applications, look for a way to purge the cache/clear or to disable from reading from USB/Portable devices - unless of course you need to have that feature enabled.
According to another source, this user encountered this error during startup and the fix was to clear recently accessed documents, programs, and website under Customize Start Menu. Again these instructions to fix the problem are specific to what program caused the error - thus in this instance Windows Start Menu.
I get an error message Exception Processing Message c0000013.
